EagleVail’s Mikaela Shiffrin finishes second in season’s first World Cup slalom race

It looks like EagleVail’s Mikaela Shiffrin will have a worthy rival this season in her pursuit of a fifth World Cup slalom title. Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova overtook Shiffrin in the second run of the season’s first slalom on Saturday in Levi, Finland, relegating Shiffrin to second place by 0.1 of a second. Shiffrin had the fastest first run but Vlhova was 0.31 of a second faster on the second run.

Brainard Lake Road construction to put chill on high country recreation this winter

Road construction will cut off access to Brainard Lake, one of Boulder County’s most popular destinations for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing, on most days through the end of June.
